Are you acting white?
As a people many of us have heard this statement one time or another. You hear some one say “He is acting white or she is acting white or they are acting white” Maybe some one said it to you. What does this mean? Acting white? Do white people have the exclusive right on happiness, on success, on living in a decent environment? Do they have an exclusive right on wanting to make a decent living or providing for their families, wanting their children to have a decent education? These are the things that I am sure that the majority of us want.
Yes many of us love our people enjoy our culture and our story. We are survivors a strong and resilient people, these are great and admirable characters. The one problem is that over the years as a people we have gotten way too lax when it come to taking care of our own, from our neighborhoods, to our children, and even the schools that our children attend.
Is it because maybe one of the things is we have allowed the label of acting white keep us from being the best that we can be? Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of our people who are doing great things, but yet and still we have a lot of work to do. When you hear a person say this “Your acting white” let them know that “No I am not acting white, I want the same thing that any decent human being want no one has the exclusive rights, on peace, prosperity, happiness or great health, I am just as significant as anyone else”.
This is why it is so important for our people to continue to strive to be the best that we can be no matter what, whether it is so called acting white or not I want the best for myself, for my family and for my people. I hope you want the same.
