Hope this email finds you in the best of health and Imaan. The very specific reason for this email is to ask you or help us find someone who can volunteer their “Graphic Design” skills for a great cause like WhyIslam. Some of the duties of this person will include:

Artwork creation (magazine ads, catalogs, flyers, brochures, stock art production, etc.)
Keep website artwork up-to-date.
Work with design templates to create online marketing creative
Some of the Projects Include:

· Post Card Designs

· Custom brochures when needed

· Marketing flyers

· Direct mail pieces

· Art work for Print Advertisements

Some of the projects that WhyIslam manages at this time with great success are:

1) A toll free line 1-877-WHY-ISLAM. Our Call Center has multiplexperienced hotline volunteer associates standing by to answer your questions on Islam.

2) This website (www.whyislam.org), that will feature articles, books etc on Islam and comparative religion. This website can be used to order free literature on Islam, or view the literature online.

3) A WhyIslam network of volunteers that has been used to establish direct contact with prison inmates through correspondence

4) WhyIslam billboards on public highways

5) WhyIslam advertisements in community newspapers

6) WhyIslam community booths at malls

Scholarships for Muslim Students & Speech Competition

(1) Undergraduate and Graduate Students in the Greater Washington Area:

The Fairfax Institute, instructional division of International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), has instituted a modest scholarship program that may be of some help to undergraduate and graduate students at colleges and universities in the Greater Washington Area. 4th Annual Speech Competition

Have something to say to your fellow students, parents, and community? Then TAKE A STAND AND SPEAK OUT at this year’s 4th Annual MSA National Speech Contest. Each participant will be given 3 minutes to speak about a different topic, and a panel of selected judges will be scoring based on content, clarity, organization, timing, and delivery.

This year’s competition is sponsored by Muslim Study Abroad . Promising Muslim student(s) from the US and Canada selected through this competition will be given prizes to learn Arabic/Islam on any of the trips hosted by Muslim Study Abroad in the coming year (through Summer 2008), including opportunities to study at Al ‘Ayn University in UAE and the International Islamic University in Malaysia. Winners will be awarded credit towards the cost of a trip of their choice with Muslim Study Abroad for the following amounts:

1st place: $1,500
2nd place: $700
3rd place: $300

The “Call Me MISTER” program is an effort to address the critical shortage of African American male teachers particularly among South Carolina ’s lowest performing public schools. Program participants are selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.

The “Call Me MISTER” program is a collaboration between Clemson University , private, historically black colleges ( Benedict College , Claflin University , and Morris College ) and two-year technical colleges to recruit, train, certify and secure employment for minority males as elementary teachers in the public schools of South Carolina .

The project provides:

a.. Tuition for admitted students pursuing approved programs of study at participating colleges.

b.. An academic support system to help assure their success.

c.. A cohort system for social and cultural support.

Procedures for admission to the “Call Me MISTER ” program are as follows:

1. Apply for and be accepted into one of the participating colleges or universities at which the degree and teaching certificate will be earned

2. Complete the Call Me MISTER online application

3. Submit the following items:

Two letters of recommendation:

1. one (1) from a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal at the high school from which the diploma is earned

2. one (1) from a person of the student’s choice who can express the student’s involvement in the community and/or potential for entering the teaching profession.

An essay entitled, “Why I Want To Teach,” which will address the student’s motivation for entering the teaching profession and the contributions he hopes to make to the profession and to the community as a teacher

Following the submission of the items above, an interview will be scheduled with prospective program participants to ascertain their potential for teaching and their motivations for participation in the program, as well as to provide an opportunity for clarification of any information submitted through the application process.

AWG Science Scholarship For Minority Women

This new program encourages young minority women to pursue an education and later a career in the geosciences. It provides financial aid and matches the student with a mentor in the same field who will offer guidance and support. This exchange will enhance the student’s experience and provide a view of the world ahead.

Applicants must be:

* A woman who is African-American, Hispanic, or Native American

* A full-time student who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in the geosciences (geology, geophysics, geochemistry, hydrology, meteorology, physical oceanography, planetary geology, or earth science education) at an accredited college or university

* A contributor to the larger world community through her academic and personal strengths

IRP Fellowships For Journalists

Any U.S. journalist with at least three years of professional journalistic experience is eligible to apply for the fellowship program. The program is open to journalists from newspapers, magazines, wire services, radio, television and on-line news organizations. Freelancers are also invited to apply.

There is no minimal educational requirement for applicants, nor is there any minimum or maximum age for Fellows. Fellows are not required to have foreign-language skills or prior overseas experience, though both may be helpful. The most important criteria are an applicant’s sincere interest in international issues, a curiosity about global events and a demonstrated record of journalistic ability.

Applicants must be citizens of the United States or else be working as journalists in the United States as full-time employees of U.S.-based news organizations.
