Pre-Inaugural Reception for women business owners in Washington, DC

NAWBO Greater DC is proud to announce that it will co-host a special Pre-Inaugural Reception for women business owners in Washington, DC on January 19th from 5-7pm in the atrium of WIPP’s Headquarters.

This special reception will celebrate the Economic Blueprint: The Women Business Owners’ Platform for Growth. The Economic Blueprint presents economic principles that allow small businesses to flourish in a global market and sets a bold comprehensive set of public policy expectations on behalf of the women business owner community.

The Pre-Inaugural Reception is being presented by Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), SBTV.com, Women’s Leadership Exchange, Count Me In, Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, and Women Presidents’ Organization.

Islam is the second-largest religion in the world after Christianity, and it is also one of the fastest-growing faiths in the United States today. Some Muslim women in America are working to foster understanding of their faith and lifestyle through theater performances. For producer Ade Astuti and Susy Tekunan, VOA’s Carla Coolman reports.

While there are no official population figures for religious affiliation in the United States, experts estimate that there are approximately six million Muslims living in the country. Yet as a non-Western faith, many Americans are unfamiliar with Islam.

To foster greater understanding, University of Chicago alumni Zeenat Rahman created the “Hijabi Monologues”.

It is a performance where American women who are Muslim tell their stories, in their own words. Through the power of story-telling, these women talk about a wide range of situations, creating a sense of shared experiences among them while enriching understanding of their lives.

With your blessings and support in our First Blood Drive this year, Anne Arundel County Muslim Council (AACMC) is organizing Second Blood Drive for this year with the help of American Red Cross at Makkah Learning Center on Sat Nov 1, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

We urge you to spread the word around and encourage your family members and friends to donate blood. Before considering blood donation, please read the BLOOD DONATION ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES posted on the American Red Cross website at http://my-redcross.org/index.cfm/p/Blood-Donor-Eligibility. and take note of minimum age (17), weight, diseases and medications, etc.

American Red Cross has provided us with fliers and signs for the event. We request our youth to help us post the signs and banners and distribute Blood Donation Applications at Shopping Malls and Shopping Centers. All are encouraged to hand out fliers to their neighbors and co-workers.
