(Muslim organization calls murder ‘horrific’ and ’sadistic’)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Press Release
For Immediate Release
February 14, 2009
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GREAT FALLS, VA - The Peaceful Families Project (PFP) strongly condemns the tragic
beheading of Aasiya Hassan of Buffalo, NY on February 12th. Police have taken her
husband, Muzzammil Hassan into custody and charged him with second degree murder.
Aasiya Hassan was found on Thursday evening following Muzzammil Hassan’s arrival
at the police station indicating she could be found in his office at Bridges TV.
Aasiya Hassan had recently filed for divorce, and had a protective order issued
against Muzzammil Hassan on February 6th. Police continue to search for the murder
weapon.
In a statement today, PFP said: “As the national Muslim organization in the United
States solely devoted to ending domestic violence, we at PFP condemn, in the strongest
terms possible, the horrific, brutal, and sadistic beheading of Aasiya Hassan.
There is no justification for domestic violence of any kind, including psychological,
verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. We have heard from numerous Muslim leaders,
imams, activists, and families voicing their outrage against this calamity. We
call upon Muslim families and leaders across the country to vocally address this
tragedy in their communities by clarifying Islam’s stance against domestic violence.
We hope that every Muslim community will actively join us in working to end all
forms of domestic violence in Muslim families by raising awareness and developing
effective programming. We send our sincere prayers and heartfelt condolences to
Aasiya Hassan’s family and friends, and hope that the perpetrator of this monstrous
crime will be brought to justice.”

1. Stop sitting on your assets, gifts and talents. Procrastination is a thief. Tap into your creativity, purpose, imagination, intuition, network and resources.
2. Stop worrying. Action and faith speak louder than fear. Thou shall let go and let God.
(Therefore do not worry and be anxious.- Matthew 6:31)
3. Avoid distractions, impatience and clutter. Keep the main thing…the MAIN THING. Follow your list of things to do to remain focused, organized and productive.
4. Find a balance between encouraging and helping others in need and knowing when to distance yourself from “energy vampires” who drain you with their drama and negativity.
5. Do the math and count your blessings. Praise God in the good and the difficult times. Read the rest of this entry »

This extends beyond work. We can and should incorporate these points into our daily lives.
1. Don’t expect to be appreciated. Your only expectation should be to get a paycheck. Don’t come to work to have personal relationships. Don’t allow what you do to affect who you are.
2. Do your job well, but remember your mission. God put you there to be a Light.
3. Seek opportunities to change the atmosphere without commenting on the problems. You have a God to talk to. You are on an assignment. Quietness and competence shall be your strength.
4. Don’t let your environment get inside of you. You should influence it, not let it influence you. Stop going to work to be fed. You didn’t come to receive, you came to give.
5. Increase your capacity to work with different personalities. God will often bless you through people you don’t even like! Read the rest of this entry »

CARL RAY PERFORMS AWARD-WINNING AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL PLAY AT GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY JANUARY 15TH — “A KILLING CHOCTAW”
Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) - On Thursday, January 15, 2009, George Washington University will kick-off a week-long celebration beginning with Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday and proceeding through the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama. To commence the historical occasion, the university has invited activist/actor/speaker Carl Ray to speak and perform his acclaimed autobiographical one-man play “A Killing in Choctaw” — a true story about Ray witnessing his father’s 1962 racially-motivated murder in Choctaw County, Alabama. Ray will relive the gripping story at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 15th at George Washington School of Media and Public Affairs, 805 - 21st Street NW, Washington, DC. Ray will host a Q&A session following his performance. Admission is free and open to the public.
In 1962, 18-year-old Carl Ray witnessed his father’s gruesome murder at the hands of a white man who was angered because he believed Ray had disrespected him in conversation. During the murder trial that followed, Ray was blamed for causing his own father’s death because he had failed to respect the white man. Read the rest of this entry »
